When does an ERP project really start?  When the contract is signed with the ERP Vendor? When the implementation partner or consulting firm comes on site?

For a successful ERP project, you should plan on starting the project well before any of these events occurs.  A project will be more successful, and fraught with fewer bumps in the road, if a strong foundation is in place when the project starts.
